Elizabeth & Slater Poe

Elizabeth and Slater are married!!

The morning of the wedding kicked off hot and humid – but that didn’t stop this couple from having the most stunning day! It was the little things throughout the day that made this wedding really shine.
The bride began the prepping with hair at Just Teasin’. Erica and Brittany made sure that Elizabeth’s hair was all she was hoping it to be, and it was gorgeous: a cascade of curls pinned back to create a soft, timeless look. Off to St. Mary’s Church for makeup artist Lexi Post to do her makeup and by the end, Elizabeth walked away a glowing, excited bride!

The wedding parties met – gals and guys in different rooms, of course – to slip into their own dresses and suits, and to laugh and bask in the anticipation of the day to come. Gorgeous flowers in colors of whites, soft pinks, and reds had already arrived from Mike’s Blooms and Things, and these were pinned into place and given to the bridesmaids to hold. Elizabeth took a moment for herself to shimmy into her wedding dress, a breathtaking gown of lace and jewels. Heels were slipped on, and suddenly everything had come together. Elizabeth was ready to marry her best friend.

The first look is always one of my favorite moments of the whole day, and these two didn’t disappoint with their emotional first glimpse of each other. Slater waited patiently at the alter for Elizabeth to sneak in behind him. He turned to see his beautiful bride standing before him, positively shining with happiness. I can tell you, the first look always gets to me – and at this particular wedding, I almost cried with the couple. Just beautiful!   After capturing a few more moments between the couple on film, it was finally time for the big moment: the ceremony.

The guests started to arrive and file into the pews, whispering excitedly to each other and glancing around eagerly to catch glimpses of the couple, or perhaps a sneak peek at the bride’s dress! Music started to slowly drift from the corner, where a live singer’s voice gently filtered throughout the room. Next was a special moment for the couple: their one-year-old son Thatcher was next to go down the aisle. He held hands with the adorable flower girl, Raegan McDonald, and giggles rose up in the crowd as these two kiddos made it clear they were not sure they wanted to go down the aisle. Thankfully, with a little help from the groom’s sister Kayla, they made it.  A few tears were shed and intakes of breath could be heard as Elizabeth walked arm in arm down the aisle with her father. When she reached Slater, he looked as if he never could have imagined a more beautiful person to marry. Vows were made, promises were spoken, and a big kiss sealed the deal! Elizabeth and Slater walked hand in hand back down the aisle and into the start of their beautiful marriage.

It was time for some fun! Thereafter, the wedding party headed to Georgetown Hall where the reception was held. Prior to entering the reception, we grabbed a few moments to get some outside wedding party photos. Everyone was so gracious and we were able to get some great photos despite the heat. Entering with their own style, the wedding party preceded the bride and groom into the reception, who walked in holding their clasped hands held high. Their joy was absolutely contagious.  Cake cutting lead into a wonderful buffet of delicious food prepared by Thelma Saxton. A few tearful speeches, a couple funny speeches, an emotional first dance by the couple, and before I knew it, it was time for all the guests to boogey!

This wedding, like every wedding I photograph, will always have so much meaning to me. However, I know this family personally and my heart is just so grateful and I feel incredibly lucky to get to capture this day—their day—for them.
To Elizabeth and Slater: I wish you and your little Thatcher a strong and happy life together! Here’s to forever.
